How to Replace an audi key replacement cost uk G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located at the edge of transmission, above the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU through an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.

It is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 through the grey wire. The ECU utilizes this information to control the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and Near By where the camshaft is located so that it can start spark and injectors in the right way.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is not in line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate a chain stretch or a jumped chain link in the upper timing chain. The code won't appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult as there are two different connector pins and they serve different purposes however the best method to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read around 1000 ohms when the sensor is at full operation. Examine for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this component.

    2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at maximum speed, i noticed a huge decrease in power. It was like the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, three were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was unclean. When I start the engine with no sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th stay shut. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I get zero Ohm. I assume that the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The audi car keys will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it is running fine with the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when it is unplugged, shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is zero.

I don't know what to do. I think I've ruled everything else out. But i am afraid i might have missed something. Let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

    3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is identical to the G4 and they both work in the 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a salvage yard or from a parts store. It is simple to test them by putting your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's end). They must be infinite Ohms.

    4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines must be aware of the position and speed of the crankshaft to determine timing of the fuel injector, etc. In order to do this it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you encounter a problem with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could cause the engine shutting down.

Some of the signs of a failed G28 sensor include an inaccurate gearbox rev counter, gears shifting quicker than normal and/or a misfire when in gear. If you experience any of these issues it is likely your sensor replace is deteriorating and should be replaced. They are cheap and easy-to-find, especially if they're an Bosch sensor like ours. If you prefer, GM's version of this part would be an excellent choice.

    5. Tachometer

A damaged engine sensor could cause a number of problems in your vehicle. It's an essential component of the transmission in your audi etron key because it relays information to the ECU about how fast or slow the car's engine is turning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other components of the car to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is situated on the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU then processes this signal to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost as well as transmitting it to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Additionally, you can examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should see around 1000 ohms of resistance between those points. This is a typical part across the audi key programmer 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC through the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU so good ones might be availble in wrecking yards.
