Pragmatics and Semantics

Many of the current philosophical approaches to pragmatics focus on semantics. For example, Brandom focuses on linguistic meaning (albeit from a pragmatic perspective).

What is pragmatism?

Pragmatism offers an alternative to continental philosophy and analytic philosophy. It was initiated by Charles Sanders Peirce. It was expanded by his friend and colleague William James, and later developed by Josiah Royce. It had a profound impact on areas of inquiry from theology and philosophy to philosophy of science, as well as ethics, politics and philosophy of language.
