It's not as effective at cleaning pet hair or other minor mess as our top picks, but it's a great option for those on a budget. It also has the best app features, including zones that are virtual and no-go cleaning.

1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO is a sturdy and well-built machine that does excellent job of vacuuming dry floors. It has a large dirt storage compartment on the outside that it automatically emptys when it is full to the docking stations and resumes cleaning after it is recharged. It's effective in removing medium and small debris from floors that are bare, though it struggles with pet hair and incurs high recurring costs.

Similar to the i3 EVO, this robot uses iRobot's iAdapat 3.0 navigation software to understand your home's layout and to remember specific rooms for future cleanings. It has a feature which automatically adjusts the suction power and head height depending on what type of floor it is working on.

It performed admirably during our tests on hard floors and low-pile surfaces, getting rid of the majority of the smaller, less difficult debris that we deposited on each surface, and the larger crumbs of cereal we put on the floor. It's a little less adept at handling pet hair than some of the best models we've tested however, and it could be stuck on cords or toys when you don't pick them up prior to sending the robot out to clean.

In our tests, it was clean for approximately 90 minutes before the battery went out and it returned to base. This is more than the i7+ or s9+ that was only able to run for 60 minutes in our tests. The i3+ EVO also has a fantastic record of remembering the exact place it left off on an individual run this isn't the case with other robots we've tested.

The i3+ EVO dustbin is 1.5 quarts in size, which is smaller than the majority of other robots that we evaluated. The bin has a release switch on the side that can be pressed to empty the bin. You can also empty it by using the docking station's CleanBase Automatic Dirt disposal, which soaks up the contents of the internal dust bin before emptying it into station's dirt bag.

2. Eureka Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro is a powerful mopping machine with a suction of 5,500pa. It can be installed in a matter of minutes. Its integrated 770ml dustbin and water tank can reduce the frequency of emptying, and its large capacity allows for longer mopping sessions. The 240-minute duration makes it an excellent option for homes with larger spaces. Its amazing smart navigation technology, courtesy of PreciSense LiDAR mapping will also provide a full coverage of the room, while also allowing the robot to move around obstacles.

The Q5 Pro is unlike some other robot vacuums which require Wi-Fi to work. Its battery isn't long lasting, so you'll need to charge it often if you intend to use the robot for more time. It is simple to maintain thanks to an easy-to-clean dirtbag which can be easily replaced and has a simple plan of maintenance. It is also cheaper than its more expensive rivals.

The Q5 Pro can be a bit finicky when is dealing with pet hair and heavier debris, but it's a great product overall. In our tests, it removed more debris on bare floors and carpets with low pile than the Dirt Devil Endura Max, however, it had a difficult time getting into the tight corners and recessed areas of high-pile carpet. It's also more mobile, bagless cleaning robots and its filtration system does an excellent job of capturing allergens. The straight suction floorhead of the vacuum is too small for large or heavy debris. There are also minor disadvantages, such as its lack of features that are more advanced and limited functionality of the remote control. Eureka Q5 Pro, despite its limitations, is a great choice for those seeking a basic robot vacuum with mopping capabilities.

3. SwitchBot K10 Plus

The SwitchBot K10 Plus is a great choice if you want a smart vacuum that also mop. The small robot has a compact form factor that allows it to get into narrow spaces like corners and under furniture that larger robots can't reach. It also features an advanced LiDAR sensor that is able to detect obstacles and avoid collisions.

During our testing, the K10 Plus vacuumed up pet hair dust, crumbs and other particles quickly and efficiently from our carpet. It also did a fantastic job of getting into tight places like under our beds and around chair legs. It can be used to mop with a separate cloth, or use a wet cloth. There's a small set of wet wipes included with the K10 Plus to get you started.

The application for the K10 Plus is intuitive and easy to use. It comes with a variety of options for customization that include setting a date that the machine won't be disturbed, changing the layout of its map and setting a schedule of when it should clean. The app also monitors the use of different tools like the filter, side brush and bin filter sensors. This is helpful for knowing when it's time to replace them.

The battery life of the K10 Plus is also pretty excellent. We could get around three hours of cleaning out of it with a full charge. It charges quite quickly. Once it's completed with its work it releases the dirt into a large dustbin located in its base station. This can be loud when it occurs, but at the very least it's not as loud as some of the other self emptying robot vacuums we've test.

4. iRobot Roomba S9+

iRobot Roomba S9+ is part of the company's premium S Series lineup above models like the iRobot Roomba J7 and iRobot Roomba i3. It is very effective on different floor surfaces and can be maneuvered easily around furniture. Its main brushroll features counter-rotating rubber scrapers that effectively remove most dirt, including pet hair, from carpets and floors. The suction power in real-world use is impressive for a robot vacuum, but it's not quite as powerful as that of premium alternatives like the Roborock S8.

The design of the Roomba S9+ is premium. It features a D-shaped frame that looks more modern than its rivals circular bodies. This alternative shape also helps it reach corners and along edges with ease. It can still leave dust in these areas if you do not spin the corner brush quickly enough. However its powerful motor is more than enough to make up for it.

In iRobot's tests the S9+ was able to pick up kitty litter and pet hair with ease. It also did exceptionally well on hard floors, as it made use of its powerful motor to blast through all kinds of debris and clean the edges and corners with ease. Its advanced vSLAM technology as well as Imprint Smart Mapping made it one of our best navigators. It can find its way under sofas or beds with draped valances.

Setup and operation are easy with the iRobot app. You can choose the functions you'd like to activate when you first set up the robot, or wait until after you've gotten familiar with it. The internal bin has to be empty manually when it is full however, the process only takes about 15 minutes and is fairly quiet.

5. Roborock S8

This latest version of the Roborock S Series is a powerful mop and bagless wifi-connected robot vacuum with a robust feature set. It uses a LIDAR and camera system to navigate and avoid obstacles as did its predecessors. The application's mapping engine creates a 3D interactive map of your house that allows you to mark certain rooms to be spot cleaned or set up no-go zones. The app also lets you control your robot's schedule and select different suction and mopping settings for each room.

The S8 features upgraded HyperForce suction that can clean up small hair and particles effortlessly. The app can be used to adjust the suction power and the device will switch between the energy-efficient 'Quiet', Balanced', and 'Turbo' modes based on the surface it's cleaning. There's also a carpet Suction Boost' mode which increases suction when the bagless robot vacuum cleaner is on carpets.

You can control the S8 with one button, which doubles as a general 'Clean button' or an "Spot Clean' button to direct the bot to that area. It is also possible to press the 'Dock/Home' button in order to send the robot back to its home base. The app is simple to use and has a surprising number of features. It even lets you choose off-peak times for charging to lower the cost of using peak-time electricity.

The S8's only downside is that the battery doesn't last nearly as long as I'd like. It lasted only 130 minutes when I used it on standard settings, with both vacuuming & mopping enabled. This is still a lengthy time and was enough to get my apartment clean.
